Worth considering for

Where it makes sense

Shortlist Sonic for its vibrating-pad approach and route access. The meaningful choice against Saros 20 is how it mops, navigates and fits your station space.

What Sonic changes in the Saros range

Saros 20 Sonic was named in Roborock’s January 2026 announcement alongside Saros 20. The shared number makes the two easy to confuse, but their cleaning hardware differs. Sonic moves an extendable vibrating pad across the floor; the ordinary Saros 20 uses rotating pads. Their navigation systems and dock footprints also differ, so a comparison needs more than a suction figure.

For an owner replacing an older sonic-mop robot, the useful questions are edge contact, stain removal and the amount of pad handling left after a run. For a first-time buyer, begin with the rooms that consume the most cleaning time. A dried kitchen spill, a low sofa and a troublesome doorway make a more useful demonstration route than an empty showroom.

WCB assessment: Sonic deserves a separate shortlist when its mop design addresses your daily cleaning problem. This is a source-based buying guide; WCB has not independently tested its pickup, stain removal or obstacle avoidance.

Core features in everyday use

A vibrating pad that reaches toward the edge

VibraRise 5.0 extends the mopping surface toward room edges. Test the dried result beside cabinets and around chair legs, where a nominally wide cleaning path can still leave work behind. Different residues need different settings; greater pressure or vibration does not make every water-sensitive floor suitable for robot mopping.

Retractable navigation below furniture

The global product page distinguishes the body dimensions from its lowest claimed entry clearance. A sofa can have a lower central rail than its visible edge, and fabric can hang into the route. Measure the narrowest usable gap and leave a margin. Also check that the robot can turn and exit after entering, rather than assessing access from a single straight approach.

A lifting chassis with specific threshold conditions

The advertised double-layer crossing depends on the height and spacing of both steps. Photograph and measure your actual doorway before requesting a demonstration. Rounded lips, narrow landings and loose rugs are different tasks from the published test arrangement. Successful crossing matters most when it lets the robot finish a recurring route without being carried.

Dock care changes the work, but does not remove it

Automatic pad detachment, washing and drying reduce repeated handling. They still leave water tanks, the tray, filters and a dust bag to service. Place the dock where these parts can be reached without moving furniture. The hot-water specification belongs to the station’s washing process and should not be read as the temperature applied to a wooden floor.

Where it fits — and where to look elsewhere

Hard floors with regular mopping: compare a familiar dried spill and the finish after the surface dries. Look for residue, edge misses and how much manual wiping remains. These observations are more useful than assuming one mop mechanism always outperforms another.

Homes with rugs and pets: observe the first wet-to-dry transitions and the handling of hair around brush ends. Use suitable exclusions for delicate rugs or loose fringes. Features intended to reduce tangling do not eliminate the need to inspect brushes and the dust path.

Split levels and awkward dock locations: plan around physical access. The robot cannot service rooms separated by a staircase, and a shorter plumbed dock still needs installation space. Consider whether carrying the robot and reaching the station will become a daily inconvenience.

Versions and market differences

This page uses the current global Sonic specification with German pricing as a separate regional reference. The CES announcement described 35,000 Pa, while the current global and German pages state 36,000 Pa. The dated sources make that change visible; it is not evidence of a tested improvement between retail units.

The tank dock and refill-and-drain dock are different configurations. Availability of plumbing versions varies by country. The product image shows a white tank-dock unit; colour and accessory bundles should be confirmed with the seller. The German store also advertises a conditional member discount, which should not be mistaken for a price available to every visitor.

Maintenance and ownership

The manufacturer’s manual recommends cleaning the main brushes every two weeks and replacing them approximately every six to twelve months, depending on wear. Side-brush care has a different schedule. Use the manual matching your local model for the complete routine, and inspect more frequently when hair or heavy debris accumulates.

Budget for bags, filters, pads and approved cleaning solution. As a dated example, the German store listed a two-pad Sonic pack at EUR 29.99 on September 6, 2026. This is a replacement-pack reference, not an annual cost estimate. Confirm compatible part numbers and local repair arrangements before importing a cheaper package.

WCB buying view

Choose Sonic for a demonstrated benefit in mopping or access, supported by a dock arrangement you can maintain. Compare it directly with the ordinary Saros 20 before moving to another brand: that makes the practical difference between vibrating and rotating pads easier to understand. A working older cleaner that already completes your rooms may still be sufficient; focus the upgrade decision on the task it currently leaves unfinished.

Questions about Roborock Saros 20 Sonic

Is Saros 20 Sonic the same as Saros 20?

No. Sonic uses an extendable VibraRise 5.0 vibrating pad and RetractSense navigation. The ordinary Saros 20 uses dual rotating pads and StarSight 2.0. Compare the exact model and dock, not the shared series number.

Does it climb a single 8.8 cm step?

No. The current global page specifies a first step up to 4.5 cm, a gap greater than 12 cm and no more than 14 cm, and a second step up to 4.3 cm. That double-layer test is not a staircase capability.

Why do some sources say 35,000 Pa and others 36,000 Pa?

Roborock’s January CES announcement used 35,000 Pa. The current global and German product pages state 36,000 Pa. This profile uses the current product-page figure and retains the older announcement only as launch evidence.

Will it fit under furniture exactly 7.95 cm high?

Do not plan a zero-clearance fit. The global page advertises 7.95 cm low-clearance access but lists a 79.8 mm robot body. Measure crossbars, sagging fabric and floor irregularities and allow a margin.

Does 100°C mean boiling water is applied to the floor?

No. It describes mop washing inside the dock. Select mopping settings suitable for your flooring and do not treat the dock temperature as a floor-disinfection guarantee.

Is the refill-and-drain version included everywhere?

No. The global page shows a separate shorter dock with regional availability. Confirm the local package, water supply, drainage and installation clearances before ordering.

What does the German price include?

The dated price card follows the plain German store listing. Its member discount has separate registration conditions. Extra mop pads, accessory packs and regional plumbing packages should be checked in the selected offer.
