Navimow’s current US store locator shows X4 models for roughly one to 1.5 acres, while earlier X3 configurations extend across other sizes and markets.

Steep or commercial sites

This is where platform differences become larger. Navimow X4 uses four-wheel drive and markets very high test-grade capability. Husqvarna separates residential AWD from professional models such as the 535 AWD EPOS and 560/580 EPOS families. Do not buy by acreage alone. A flat, open two-acre lawn is easier than a one-acre property split by buildings, tree canopy, gates, steep banks and narrow transport paths.

RTK, Vision, LiDAR and EPOS

Both brands increasingly sell virtual-boundary mowing, but their system architecture and fallback behavior differ.

Navimow positioning

Navimow’s EFLS family combines satellite correction with other sensors. The X3 platform’s EFLS 3.0 combines RTK coverage with visual simultaneous localization and mapping (VSLAM) and visual-inertial odometry (VIO). Its wide camera system also supports obstacle detection.

Newer Navimow platforms add different routes:

Husqvarna EPOS uses satellite positioning and correction data to define work areas, stay-out zones and transport paths. In covered US locations, correction data can come through Husqvarna Cloud. Otherwise, compatible packages can use a local reference station with an open view of the sky.

Husqvarna says a reference station needs approximately a 135-degree clear sky view. Moving it after mapping can require rebuilding the map. Cloud-based EPOS also needs suitable internet connectivity across the operating area.

EPOS Support by Wire can reinforce selected sections with poor satellite reception. It is a hybrid tool, not a way to create a completely separate work area outside the virtual boundary. Husqvarna also notes that the docking point still needs adequate satellite conditions.

What this means in practice

RTK accuracy is only one layer. Before purchase, mark:

  • tree canopy and seasonal leaf density;
  • walls, tall hedges and metal structures;
  • narrow passages between buildings;
  • front-to-back routes;
  • charging-station sky view;
  • Wi-Fi and cellular coverage;
  • places where a stopped mower would block access;
  • pools, roads, retaining walls and drops that need a physical safety margin.

Vision or LiDAR can improve continuity, but no sensor removes the need for a safe site design.

Manufacturers publish a recommended area, but actual completion time depends on mowing frequency, growth rate, slope, turns, obstacles, charging and travel between zones.

Navimow X3 was promoted for lawns up to 2.5 acres in the US launch, while model capacities vary internationally. The current X4 lineup is segmented by area. Husqvarna ranges from compact residential machines to two-acre iQ models and larger professional systems.

A buyer should reserve capacity. If the lawn is at the model’s maximum rating, spring growth, rain delays and extra zones can leave no recovery window. Commercial operators should calculate weekly hectares or acres actually completed—not just the nameplate area.

Slopes, Traction and Boundary Safety

Slope claims are among the easiest robot-mower specifications to misuse.

Navimow’s compact i105/i110 platform lists a 30% (17-degree) maximum operating slope but only 10% (6 degrees) at the boundary. X3 lists up to 27 degrees. X4’s much higher headline was measured under specific dry-grass, grass-height and remote-control test conditions.

Inspect at least three slope conditions:

  • straight uphill and downhill;
  • lateral travel across the grade;
  • turning or stopping near the boundary.

Wet turf, loose soil, moss, roots, holes and wheel contamination reduce grip. A robot may climb a slope yet slide during a turn. Near a pool, road, wall edge or drop, do not treat the laboratory maximum as the design target.

For difficult terrain, compare driven wheels, tire tread, vehicle weight, ground clearance, pivot behavior and how easily wheels or body panels can be replaced.

Navigation does not determine cut quality by itself. Compare:

“Edge cutting” never means zero trimming on every property. Blade offset can reduce the uncut strip, but raised borders, walls, fences and sharply mapped virtual boundaries still leave different results. A level paved border is easier than a vertical retaining wall.

For dealers, show a real boundary demonstration. Measure the uncut strip at a wall, a flush path and a curved bed rather than repeating one edge-cutting label.

Removing buried boundary wire reduces one type of labor, but wireless installation still involves:
