A compact mower for smaller lawns

ViAX 500 combines front-wheel drive, dual-camera vision and 360° LiDAR in a compact wire-free mower. The absence of a perimeter wire or separate RTK antenna can simplify installation, but the important buying question remains whether its capacity and terrain limits fit the lawn. A small, divided garden can take longer to maintain than a larger open rectangle.

MOVA's March 2026 campaign provides a dated release reference. The current global page supplies the technical details, while the European launch article supplies a clearly labelled historical price. This is a documentation-based guide, with no claim of independent mowing, navigation or animal-detection testing.

Resolve the area rating before buying

The current global page advertises mapping up to 600 m², while launch material describes ViAX 500 for a 500 m² lawn. This guide keeps both contexts visible rather than silently changing the capacity attached to the model name. Ask the regional seller to confirm the supported map area and leave headroom for restricted operating hours, complex edges and seasonal growth.

The separate 120 m² standard-mode and 150 m² efficient-mode figures describe coverage per charge. They are not the total supported lawn size, and they should not be multiplied into a guaranteed daily output without allowing for charging, navigation and the actual cutting conditions.

Navigation and terrain limits

The current ViAX 500 specification identifies UltraEyes 2.0 with dual AI vision and LiDAR. Some shared series text still mentions the vision-only UltraEyes 1.0 arrangement, making the full model identity especially important. Confirm the delivered sensor configuration rather than relying on a shortened ViAX family description.

The front-wheel-drive design is rated for a 40% slope, approximately 22 degrees, and obstacles up to 4 cm. It also advertises passage through 60 cm openings. Measure the actual clear route and consider wet grass, sharp turns and boundary placement. Virtual mapping does not make a steep drop, pond edge or obstructed passage suitable for mowing.

Versions and market differences

ViAX 500 should be distinguished from smaller ViAX variants and from LiDAX Ultra AWD. Its 2–6 cm cutting height is adjusted with a manual knob. App-based scheduling and zone controls do not mean height adjustment is electronic. The €749 figure is a European launch reference, not a verified September store offer.

Optional tracking hardware also needs a separate check. Confirm whether a Link Module is included, what network service is provided and what renewal costs apply. Two saved maps can support separate lawns, but an additional charging station or manual transfer may still be required when there is no usable connecting route.

Maintenance and ownership

The 20 cm cutting system favours a smaller chassis but needs more passes than a wider mower. Plan regular blade inspection and replacement according to the manual, with the mower safely powered down before working near the cutting assembly. Clear toys, tools and other movable objects before scheduled operation, and check the mapped boundary after changes to the garden.

On-boundary mowing is intended for suitable level transitions between grass and a traversable surface. Raised borders, drops and planting can still need separate trimming. IPX6 is a water-resistance rating, not permission for immersion or unrestricted pressure washing. Follow the product instructions for cleaning, charging and seasonal storage.

Choosing ViAX or LiDAX

ViAX makes sense when the lawn fits its regional capacity rating and does not require AWD. The LiDAX Ultra 2000 AWD comparison offers a wider 40 cm cutting system and much higher slope rating, alongside a substantially larger machine. The non-AWD LiDAX Ultra 1000 is another distinct option with rear-wheel drive.

Choose around clear routes, slope geometry, storage and available mowing hours rather than assuming the highest model number is always appropriate. A local mapping demonstration is particularly useful when narrow passages, tree cover or an awkward boundary is the deciding concern.

Is ViAX 500 vision-only?
