The LUBA mini 2 AWD 1500 combines two changes worth separating: a different navigation arrangement for this revision, and an additional cutting disc for edge work. They address mapping conditions and lawn finish respectively; neither should be reduced to a generic claim that the second generation is simply more powerful.
Mammotion’s generation comparison distinguishes the 1500 LiDAR version from the mini 2 1000’s camera-and-NetRTK setup. It also identifies the dedicated edge disc as a change from the original mini. An older LUBA mini already working reliably on an open lawn does not necessarily need replacement just because a newer navigation option exists.
WCB assessment: consider the upgrade when the current mower struggles around obstructed satellite views or leaves a substantial amount of repeated edge trimming. Quantify those two problems separately before comparing the purchase cost.

LiDAR positioning for this specific 1500
The current EU listing uses LiDAR and dual-camera vision. This avoids an installed RTK antenna, but the important check is whether the mower recognises your garden consistently after ordinary changes such as moved chairs or growing plants. An open centre lawn is an easier test than a side passage beside a building or a route through dense borders.
AWD where grip is a real requirement
All-wheel drive can be relevant to steep and uneven terrain. The maximum slope claim still does not describe safe operation at every boundary, beside water or on slippery ground. Inspect both ascent and descent routes, turning areas and the space available before an edge. If the lawn is largely flat, ask whether you need this traction capability at all.
A separate disc for the final strip
