Dyson’s W1 is a new revision of its slim floor washer, announced in September 2026. It retains the manually guided format and concentrates the cleaning equipment near the floor. The revised head changes how the roller handles debris and how the owner separates collected waste. This guide covers the UK package with a wand charging dock.

For a potential buyer, the useful question is whether that arrangement makes frequent cleanup easier in a real home. Storage space, carrying effort and the routine after a small spill all matter. WCB has not carried out a hands-on test, so the manufacturer’s performance claims should not be read as independently measured results.

The hybrid roller combines absorbent material with bristles, while a comb is intended to manage long hair. It receives fresh water as the head recovers dirty liquid and debris. That approach is relevant to mixed kitchen mess, where a dry vacuum alone would leave the washing task unfinished.

Look beyond the appearance of a single clean strip in a demonstration. Check whether crumbs remain near the wall, how the head behaves around table legs and how much residue is left in the waste tray. If hair is a regular problem, inspect the roller and comb after a realistic session. An anti-tangle claim should reduce your inspection workload only if experience supports it.

The slim handle and low working height are useful only if the cleaner reaches the spaces you regularly use. Measure the actual gap beneath cabinets and sofas, including floor unevenness, before treating a clearance figure as guaranteed access. The in-hand weight describes supported steering; use the full machine weight when considering stairs or carrying it to storage.

Maximum runtime and tank coverage are different limits. Higher hydration, repeated passes and more concentrated dirt can require a refill before the battery is exhausted. Try planning cleanup around one room or a connected set of rooms first. A smaller, easily completed routine may be more useful than stretching one tank across the largest possible area.

The UK wand-dock configuration is crucial to this guide. Dyson’s broader launch material also describes W1 + Dok with automated care, but the selected UK product FAQ explicitly states that this package has no self-clean cycle. Check the included dock against the seller’s invoice and product code. Family-level advertising alone does not establish what will arrive in the box.

The W1 is also distinct from the earlier PencilWash. Existing owners should verify parts compatibility before buying a roller or head advertised simply as PencilWash. The UK tank specification and rounded launch description differ slightly; the specification table preserves that distinction. Overseas pricing, accessories and service terms need their own verification rather than conversion from this UK reference.

After-use care is a material part of the purchase decision. The UK instructions call for removing and washing the roller and waste parts, followed by air drying. Choose a storage location with somewhere suitable for wet parts to dry, not just enough floor space for the charging stand. Do not assume that returning the wand to its charger completes the cleaning routine.

Dyson’s care FAQ specifies at least 24 hours of drying for the wet roller. If you expect repeated sessions, consider how that instruction fits your schedule and ask about a compatible spare roller. Replacement prices have not been verified here. Also check access to a sink, disposal of captured solids and the convenience of cleaning the debris tray after small jobs.

The W1’s strongest case is frequent hard-floor washing where light handling and compact storage are priorities. It does not take over carpet cleaning or provide a detachable above-floor vacuum. Buyers whose larger chore is cleaning awkward vertical surfaces should compare a machine designed with a suitable wand, while those who dislike washing rollers should inspect an explicitly equipped care dock.

For an original PencilWash owner, the new model name alone is not a reason to replace a working machine. Compare the practical improvement you need with the complete cost of changing equipment. A useful return-period test includes a normal spill, one low furniture area and the entire wash-and-dry routine afterward; the time spent on all three determines the value.
