Worth considering for

Where it makes sense

Worth comparing for automatic dust handling and access under furniture. Alongside the manufacturer specifications, read the linked RTINGS IA3241 test: it reports strong carpet pet-hair pickup but weaker results on thick carpet and fine-particle containment. WCB has not tested this model.

Before you commit

When to look elsewhere

Wet-spill cleaning, buyers expecting 60 minutes of powered-floorhead cleaning, or households without a station location. Thick-carpet and fine-dust containment needs deserve a closer look at the linked independent test.

What the auto-empty system changes

Shark PowerDetect Speed Clean & Empty IA3241 is a dry cordless vacuum built around a practical routine: collect everyday debris, return the cleaner to its station and let the dock take over dust transfer and charging. The US system launched on April 14, 2026. Its main buying argument is reducing how often you handle the small onboard dust cup, while retaining a detachable handheld for stairs, upholstery and corners.

The station’s 2 L capacity and claimed storage of up to 45 days can suit frequent small cleanups. Households collecting substantial pet hair should assess their actual emptying interval. The station also needs accessible floor space near power, which matters in a narrow cupboard or small apartment.

Pickup, sensing and furniture access

TurboPro Detect is Shark’s self-cleaning brushroll design for pickup on forward and backward strokes. The current US IA3241 page lists Dirt Detect, Floor Detect and Direction Detect. These are manufacturer-described functions, not evidence that WCB has measured pickup superiority. The launch release also mentions Edge Detect; this guide follows the narrower, exact US product listing rather than transferring every family-level claim.

MultiFLEX bends the wand to reach below furniture and folds it for storage. Check the actual head clearance under sofas before treating bendability as full access. Blue Reveal illumination helps expose dust on the floor; it is distinct from the sensing system and does not certify that a surface is hygienically clean.

Independent test check

RTINGS published its IA3241 laboratory review on August 5, 2026, using an Ice Blue Clean & Empty unit. It reported effective carpet pet-hair pickup, with weaker results on high-pile carpet, floor cracks and fine-particle containment. Those findings add a practical limit to the manufacturer’s filtration and pickup claims. They are RTINGS results under its own test method; WCB has not independently tested this vacuum.

Runtime, weight and cleaning sessions

The advertised 60 minutes uses ECO mode with a non-motorized tool on the hand vacuum. That configuration differs from routine powered-floorhead cleaning. Buyers who want to vacuum several carpeted rooms continuously should seek a test matching that workload. The listed six-hour recharge makes returning the cleaner to its station after use especially relevant.

Shark specifies a 3.5 lb hand vacuum and markets the cleaner at about 7 lb. Its IA3241 specification table separately shows 14.2 lb without explaining the measurement scope. We therefore do not label that figure as handheld or cleaner-only weight. For stairs and prolonged overhead use, assess the complete configuration you will carry. Likewise, 350 W is electrical power; it cannot be substituted for a suction rating in air watts.

Versions and market differences

This guide covers the US Ice Blue IA3241. On September 14, 2026, Shark’s US store showed $499.99 for this package and $429.99 for the Copper Dusk IA1241, a $70 difference before any checkout changes. IA1241 supplies a charging cord and lists a crevice tool plus upholstery tool; IA3241 includes the station, crevice tool and Pet Multi Tool. Blue Reveal is explicitly promoted for IA3241.

The regular version is relevant if you prefer manual emptying and a simpler storage arrangement. Choose the station package at purchase if automatic dust transfer is central to your decision: later dock compatibility has not been verified. Regional IA1000 or IA3000 family names do not establish identical batteries, accessories, chargers or warranty coverage.

Maintenance and ownership

Automatic emptying still depends on clear air paths and clean filters. Inspect the brushroll, nozzle, onboard cup and dock inlet when pickup or dust transfer weakens. A self-cleaning brushroll can reduce hair accumulation but does not remove the need to check trapped material. The claimed 45-day interval concerns stored debris, not permission to postpone every maintenance task.

The official Australia/New Zealand IA3000-series manual recommends cleaning filters at least monthly, rinsing with cold water only and allowing them to dry fully before refitting. This is a regional family reference; follow the instructions supplied with a US IA3241 for its exact procedure and parts. Confirm local replacement-filter availability and warranty terms before importing. Do not infer US odor-cartridge requirements from an overseas accessory package.

Replacement parts: verify the model match

A parts recommendation still needs a manufacturer compatibility check. The official listings for XPRMFIP1000 pre-motor filters and XPMHIP1000 post-motor filter name IP-series machines but do not explicitly include IA3241 on the September 14 check. Use the exact US product support entry to confirm the correct part before buying.

Which alternative belongs on your shortlist

IA1241 is the closest configuration comparison because it exposes what the station premium buys. Bosch Unlimited 9 BCS931WUC takes a different approach: manual dust compression, a standard straight tube and approximately three-hour charging. Its 60-minute headline also excludes an electrical nozzle, so equal runtime headlines do not establish equal cleaning endurance.

For a broader Shark-versus-Dyson decision, read the existing PowerDetect Speed versus Dyson V16 Piston Animal comparison. Use this model page for the newer dated price snapshot. Prioritize dust handling, reach under furniture and your cleaning schedule; specifications alone cannot establish which cleaner removes more dirt in your home.

Questions about Shark PowerDetect Speed Clean & Empty IA3241

Is IA3241 a 2026 new product?

Yes. SharkNinja announced the PowerDetect Speed Clean & Empty System on April 14, 2026. This guide covers the US IA3241 package, with specifications and prices checked on September 14, 2026.

What is the difference between IA3241 and IA1241?

IA3241 includes the auto-empty charging station and advertises Blue Reveal illumination. IA1241 is the regular stick-vacuum package with a charging cord and a different accessory set. Both list MultiFLEX, TurboPro Detect and three sensing functions. US official prices checked on September 14 were $499.99 and $429.99 respectively.

Does the 60-minute runtime apply to normal floor cleaning?

No. Shark qualifies it as ECO mode with a non-motorized tool attached to the hand vacuum. The powered floorhead, stronger suction, floor type and debris load can shorten runtime. A comparable measured whole-home floor-cleaning runtime was not verified.

Does auto-empty mean I can ignore maintenance for 45 days?

No. Up to 45 days refers to debris storage in the dock. You must still inspect the brushroll, air path, onboard cup and filters. Pet hair and heavy debris can make the dock need emptying sooner.

Does IA3241 have Edge Detect?

The current US IA3241 product page lists Dirt Detect, Floor Detect and Direction Detect. The launch release contains broader Edge Detect language, so this guide does not promise Edge Detect for the US SKU. Check the supplied manual for the unit you buy.

How heavy is the cleaner?

Shark gives 3.5 lb for the hand vacuum and markets the cleaner at about 7 lb. The IA3241 store specification table also lists 14.2 lb without a clear scope. That figure should not be described as handheld weight or assumed to be a directly comparable cleaner-only measurement.

Can IA1241 be upgraded later with the IA3241 dock?

Compatibility was not verified from the official sources reviewed. Do not assume that sharing the PowerDetect Speed name means the dust cup, docking connection, charging system and parts are interchangeable. Buy the confirmed IA3241 package if auto-empty is essential.

Which replacement filters fit IA3241?

RTINGS identifies XPRMFIP1000 and XPMHIP1000, but the official US accessory pages checked on September 14, 2026 list IP-series models without explicitly naming IA3241. Compatibility remains unconfirmed here. Ask Shark support to match your exact model and part number before ordering.
