A Major Battle Is About to Begin

2022: The Year of Market Turmoil in Europe

In 2022, Russia's invasion of Ukraine marked the beginning of a year-long economic downturn across much of Europe. According to incomplete statistics, the cleaning appliance industry experienced a decline of around 50%.

Just as pessimism gripped the European and Russian markets, a few companies managed to thrive amidst the turmoil. With major brands like Electrolux and Dyson exiting Russia, they left behind a significant market gap. Chinese companies that had already established a presence in Russia seized this opportunity and reaped substantial profits.

On September 20, 2022, Putin announced referendums on joining Russia for Donbass People's Republic (DPR), Luhansk People's Republic (LPR), Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions. Following the referendums, these territories became part of Russian territory. If the war continues, it could lead to further territorial disputes with Russia.

Regardless of how events unfold, one thing is certain: the conflict between Ukraine and Russia will likely continue into this year. The current economic situation in Europe may persist for an indeterminate period.

If market share continues to shrink, competition among companies in the market will intensify to a fever pitch.

This year's Double Eleven saw a noticeable cold reception. Typically, orders are prepared well in advance, and motivational campaigns start a month earlier. However, at this point, there is no sense of the usual excitement.

Chatting with friends, everyone seems to be adopting a laid-back attitude—lie low, take it easy, and just get through this year.

But for industry leaders, this period offers an opportunity to aggressively expand market share.

According to insider information, in both hard floor washers and robot vacuums during this Double Eleven, the price wars among major players may be more intense than usual. The competition over existing markets is often irrational, reduced to bare-knuckle combat.

The outcome for the top three companies is largely predetermined; whoever is willing to sacrifice profits will secure a larger market share in this Double Eleven. Reports suggest that company executives are frequently traveling to secure key resources.

For us mere observers, it's just about watching who comes out on top.

More distressing is the situation for brands ranked 4-10 by design and user experience, which now find themselves caught in the crossfire of the industry’s top three. Massive investments and subsidies might force them into this high-stakes competition as well. The result could be that the top three companies bleed to gain market share, while the rest struggle to survive.
