- Bissell’s BarkBath reflected the company’s long-term pet-care positioning.
- The second-generation product emphasized dual use for pets and carpets.
- Denny questioned whether the crowdfunding performance indicated weak future sales.

Vacuum cleaner industry giant Bissell has just released an upgraded version of its product BarkBath on the crowdfunding platform indiegogo.com.
BarkBath is a dog cleaning product released by Bissell in 2017, and it is very consistent with Bissell’s concept of pet care. However, according to internal understanding, the sales volume of the first generation of BarkBath is also very average, and basically it has no reputation in the industry.

There is Dual-Use in the name of the second generation, which shows that the main direction is dual-use. It can be used on pets or on carpets, similar to the previous Spot lift carpet cleaning machine.
It has been released for 3 days now, and there are 114 supporters in total. Judging from this number, the later sales may not be optimistic.
Let’s take a look at what features BarkBath’s products have.
First of all, there are two water tanks, and sewage and purified water are treated separately. This technology is what Bissell is good at. There is a shampoo box in the water tank, which can be sprayed directly through the control on the brush head, and then the generated garbage can be sucked back into the sewage tank?

In this way, you don't have to wet your dog when taking a bath as in the past. If the dog shakes its head, the whole place will be covered with water.

Another main function of Dual use is that you can change one connector and transform it into a carpet cleaning machine, which can be used for two purposes. This improves the practicality of the machine.

Another feature is that the brush head is designed to directly reach the surface of the dog's skin for deeper cleaning.

You can also customize different dog hair brush heads for the dogs at home.

Another feature is that the noise is very clear. Judging from the startup sound in the promotional video, the noise is very small. If the noise is small, it may also use a relatively low-power motor. This must be studied after actually getting the product.

To summarize, the difference between the second generation and the first generation is:
- Less noise
- Integrate more functions into it
- The bristles and cleaning tool are integrated together
- The carpet cleaning function can be easily switched.
It can be seen that this BarkBath has been greatly improved compared to the first generation. It has also made many improvements to address the pain points of the market.
First: In the past, many pet vacuum cleaners were relatively loud, and pets would be frightened when they were turned on. If there is no corresponding improvement in this point, vacuuming pets' fur will be a hard job.
Second: Bathing a pet is a difficult task. If you wash it yourself, you may get caught or bitten. If you wash it outside, the price is too high.

Third: Carpet cleaning function. In the United States, carpet cleaning is a necessity, and Bissell’s carpet cleaning machines are also selling well. After adding a special cleaning brush head for carpets to this machine, the purchase cost is saved.
However, there are still some questions:
- The pet used in the promotion is a dog, which is relatively docile. If it is a cat, the cat is more sensitive to noise, etc. Can it still be used smoothly?
- Is the cleaning shampoo equivalent to a no-rinse shampoo? If you keep using this no-rinse shampoo, will it cause any damage to your pet’s skin?
- It sounds like the noise is relatively low. Does that mean the power is also relatively low? In this case, is there enough suction power to clean the carpet?
- Are there any additional functions that can be added, such as a pet massager?

The pet market is huge, and the vacuum cleaner market is also huge, so what should be the integration point between the two deserves in-depth study by practitioners.
